Pastor Roy Rocha’s ministry at Novaliches, in Manila, is in good heart. Brother Grant Aldridge visited in April as part of his regular visit to the Philippines and brought back pictures of the congregation at the church’s 6 am morning service on Sunday 21 April. They begin their services very early to allow some of their congregation to attend at their workplaces later in the day – in many cases getting and keeping a job means being prepared to work seven days a week!
You will recall that during the past few years, the house that Roy and Llerma and their family lived in has often been flooded as the heavy rains associated with regular tropical cyclones have inundated the area, which is situated below the flood level of the district. With some assistance from a Christian trust in New Zealand, they were able to purchase their own property in an area well above the flood-prone area. The house is situated just below the road level so needed work to firstly raise its entrance above the road to prevent run-off water entering and also to make the entrance easily accessible for Llerma who uses crutches when she walks and travels around on an electric tricycle. They took possession of the property in early February and are presently raising the floor level of the ground floor, and the second storey roof to retain proper headroom, and to renovate the interior to suit their family. Their church and its members, especially the young people, are assisting the family with labour and some of the costs associated with these changes. Their local council has been very helpful in providing quantities of suitable fill for the project.
Roy and Llerma are very grateful to God to now be able to own their own home, and they ask us to pray with them that He will provide for the necessary renovations so that they can soon move into their own home which will be free of flooding. Even as they have been working on this project, they have experienced further flooding and an earthquake at the same time at their “old home”!!
Roy and Llerma also ask us to join them in thanking and praising the Lord that their daughter Keziah has recently graduated from college, and their younger son Peniel is moving from junior to senior level at high school. They ask us to pray with them for wisdom for Keziah who is trying to decide whether to look for a job or continue to study in a seminary to study for a Master of Arts degree in Transformational Leadership. They are also seeking the Lord’ s will in regard to a suitable school for Peniel for his senior studies.
