English Camp strikes again!
On May 25, 2013, Christian Mission began its fourth or fifth year of conducting Saturday English Camps at village Elementary Schools. Approximately 70 elementary students, 13 teachers and our team of 8 gave up their Saturday to participate in Saturday English Camp – Older teaching Younger.
The goal is to have our team teach 4-6 grade students and they go back to their schools and teach grades 1-3 what they have learned. Results have ranged from fantastic to nothing happening, but we keep going. There were 4 schools involved in this camp; and this is about their 6th or 7th camp over the past year or two. They are very enthusiastic and have already scheduled their next camp for June 22. The four principals will rotate being hosts, and would like one every month for the next 4 months.
We have one addition – Dr. Jay – in the US years ago he was a chiropractor. He came with the first World Teach volunteer group and at the end of that year just stayed on. He has been here now starting his 4th year. He and three students from his high school will be joining us whenever they can. He has developed an English game to help teach the verbs to be, to have, and to do. Teachers got a two hour session of it on Saturday and want him back again.
We are also at the planning stages of taking our program to a couple of high schools.
Prayer points
- Pray that the teachers and students at the various schools will see God’s love coming from our kids and understand that our kids get nothing out of this, just a chance to help someone else.
- Pray that our kids will be diligent in their school work and be witnesses for Christ at their own school.
- Pray for those who continue to live at the Christian Mission – there are only three now – and that others will join them.
- Pray for Dr. Jay and his students – that they will continue to work with us; that they might see God’s love through our kids.
