John’s Blog | Latest English Camp Dec 2011

December 13, 2011 Filed Under: John's Newsletter, Newsletters, Newsletters | Thailand

Greetings again. Here is our report on our latest English Camp. God has again blessed us greatly. He has provided a second team of volunteers to conduct English Camps on Saturday at country elementary schools. We are also now moving in to schools that are grades K-9.

Our latest English Camp was held at Ban Gaeo Pad pong school. Students attending were in grades 5, 6 and 7. Students conducting the camp were 8 of my now 10 first year university students.  There were 6 girls and two boys. They are majoring in English and want to be English teachers. They are with me about 4 hours a week for tutoring. The fee they pay is to volunteer to conduct one English Camp a month. This was their second time out. You will also see an older couple in some of the pictures. They are Joe and Candy Boys. They are here in Thailand with World Teach, but have volunteered to help teach and observe and give me evaluations.  This helps me greatly to improve our program. Both of them have been teachers for several years, and are dedicated to helping kids learn.  We praise God for all of this that we can help the kids even more. Item for prayer: The 10 university students who do not know Christ; that they might come to know Christ through these activities and accept him as their lord and Savior too.

There were 80 students that attended the English Camp. These 80 students will now use what they have learned to teach grades 1-3 in their own schools. I do follow-up visits to see if this is happening. If it I, we try to provide additional assistance. If it is not happening, we move on to another school.

So far since we have started this program; God has seen fit for us to conduct 30 or so one-day Saturday English Camps, and several three-day English Camps.

The team from New Zealand and the US will have an opportunity to work in schools up to 8 days while they are here. They will also be involved in one Saturday English Camp.  This service is beyond cost because it provides our children with something they need – First, access to information about Christ and his love for them; second, practice in English that is desperately needed. Please keep these children receiving the assistance in your prayers as well as those who are conducting the training.

Update on our resident students. Most of you know that we have had resident students living here at the mission for almost two years now. Of the original 6, three are still with us and two of those have accepted Christ. We currently have 9 students – two just left and two more are waiting for parent approval. None of this group has accepted Christ.  We ask for your prayers for these kids also. Christian Mission now provides support in one form or another for about 20 students ranging from grade 6 to second year university.  We are currently praying about adding a third room to add another 3-4 students to our group. Pray that God will give us direction and resources for this to become possible, if it is in his plans for us here.

Thank you for allowing me to run on a bit here. Lots of love and may God Bless all of you who provide so much for us over here.  John and Maeo
