Greetings from the Christian Mission again. We praise God for a fantastic week – all of our students are back in school and all is going well. Our 8 live-in students are taken care of by God and all bills and things for them have been paid.
On Saturday May 21 we had our first English Camp of the new school year. (Photos in gallery below, hover over photo to read the caption)
We had the largest group of learning students we have every had – 66 students; and we had our largest group of volunteer teachers. This school is one of the largest ones we have been to. Normally we take 4th, 5th and 6th graders, but we had to limit it to 5th and 6th grade and still had about 20 more students that I like to have. Our 6 veterans were all present and teaching; but we have added another 6 volunteers – 3 6th grade 2 7th grade and one 10th grade student who wish to participate. These new students spent about 100 hours during their summer vacation, and will now spend 6-9 hours per week in extra English classes with me. The goal is to have them teaching by the beginning of second semester – November 2011. Please pray for them. Our veterans are getting better and better and we thank God for blessing them with the knowledge and talent to do this work. Our next English camp will be on June 16.
Our camps start 8 8:30 am, Saturday morning. They go from then until noon, with an hour for lunch and then back at it again from 1 pm to 2:30 for games and practice for a presentation they will make in the afternoon. We reassemble at 2:30 pm and each group presents a song, skit, or whatever they wish, based on what they learned in the morning. The program is over by about 3:30 pm and we head for home. The one for this Saturday, I picked up the kids beginning at 7:30 am and they finally got back home at about 7:30 pm – after an all-you-can-eat dinner. God has blessed us and we pray will continue to do so. This program has become very popular at the schools and we are booked up for several months in advance. As a direct result of this, I have been asked to do a 2 hour session at two separate elementary schools on the history of our Creator God. This is a door we have been praying about for eight years now. Pray God will give me the wisdom to use the opportunity to his best advantage and many more schools will wish the same thing. Thanks for your continued support – prayers first and financial second. The programs here would not go without both.
Thanks and God Bless, John and Maeo.
