Dear friends, supporters and prayer partners,

Greetings to you and once again my thanks for your support and encouragement in so many ways, but especially for your prayer support for the workers in Advent Christian ministries in India, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand. As reports have come in over recent weeks it has been encouraging to see indications of your prayers being answered and evidence of the work of God’s Holy Spirit in many areas of ministry. There have been reports of baptisms; indications of our workers reaching out into new geographic areas where the Word of God is not normally shared; and advice that our workers are touching the lives of many who can be classed as underprivileged in their countries.

The Apostle James’ definition of “religion” in James 1:27 – “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” (ESV) – is very evident in the ministries in all of the four countries mentioned above. Not only are they maintaining their efforts in these areas of ministry but they are reaching out even further and increasing the number of lives they touch in one way or another, with Christian love and care and compassion.

In Malaysia the little Advent Christian group in Kluang led by Sister Ruth Devairakkam and her husband Wilfred and assisted by her daughters, has recently experienced joy as they ministered to a group of handicapped and Downs Syndrome children in their city. Whilst some these children probably do not fit the literal definition of “orphans” it should be noted that in many Asian countries the families of children coming within the categories of handicapped and/or Downs Syndrome are not able to avail themselves of support from governments as we in western countries are often blessed and able to do. Often there is no assistance of any kind available from governments or in some cases from NGOs either, and the children and their caregivers could properly be classed as being on their own or as “orphans” in the wider sense of the word. They certainly need all the assistance and love they can get.

Ruth recently reported as follows…

“Greetings in the precious Name of Jesus. Recently, our group was invited to pray for the handicapped and Downs Syndrome children. We also had lunch fellowship with them. These children were so happy to be prayed for by our team. We had fun with the children. Their smiles brought joy to our hearts. Do pray along with us, for the Lord’s healing touch upon these children. ”As you pray, ask the Lord to give you an opportunity to invest yourself in another person today “. Barbara Nobles - Maranatha Devotional Guide (2005) God bless you.”

Ruth’s recent reports also indicate some growth in the numbers gathering with them and a widening of their sphere of influence and ministry for the LORD.

“Recently, my Chinese Buddhist neighbor approached us for help to pray for breakthroughs because of her personal problems. She also encouraged another Chinese business woman, facing a thorny situation with her son, to come to us for prayer. We prayed for both of them. The Lord has supernaturally intervened and calmed their situation. Healing is taking place in her family. Some of James’ friends and my friends who were touched by the Lord, during our ministry a few years ago, are now inviting us to their homes for fellowship and prayer. They are non-Christians. God is blessing our team-work. Mercy, Gracy and I, and my daughters minister among the ladies, Christians and non-Christians. They are single-mothers with under-privileged children and young ladies who need prayer and encouragement. For EASTER we had a beautiful time of praise and worship, and thanksgiving. We had lunch fellowship after the service. We are trusting the Lord for a building (rented shop-house lot) to hold our services and evangelistic meetings in the near future. At the moment, we have to ensure that our worship services are not too loud, as we are in a residential area. Our AC group is always represented at the Combined Churches Prayer Meetings.

Towards the end of this month, our group will be going on a mission-trip to the East Coast of Malaysia. Our AC group sends you EASTER GREETINGS. We appreciate all your prayers for the work over here.”

In Myanmar Pastor David recently reported as s follows concerning his group’s (Fellowship Bible Church Myanmar) ministry to widows.

“And we care some of widows in our ministry and we show the love of God and share the gospel. This women is accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord in last year. We are praying for her and provide some food for her. So that her life is changing before she become Christian and after become Christian. Before she become Christian her life is lonely and there is no help and hopeless. But when she become Christian her life and joy and hopeful and she received care from brothers and sisters in Christ. She testimony she received Jesus Christ in her life is so good and lucky for her Life. Thanks for your partner with in your prayer for our ministry.”

Brother D also recently advised that they had taken in another orphan to add to the 67 they are currently caring for in four locations around Yangon. He advised….

Greetings and this is new orphan children arrive in our orphanage home today. His parents were died and no one want to care him. He is waiting to helping his life in the street in Shan State. Our missionary in Shan State saw him and send to our orphanage home for today. He was lonely and crying in his life. But when he arrived in our home he is happy and playing with gun. He want to become Christian soldier in his future life. Praying for him.”

This little boy’s smile says it all and clearly shows the difference that Christian love and care can make!

In India, in November 2011, Yesuway Jeevan Mission entered into an agreement to partner in ministry with EMMANUEL’S SCHOOL AND CHILDREN’S HOME, in the town of CHANDEL in the STATE of MANIPUR, in north-eastern India. Chandel is about an hour and half’s drive from the capital city of the State – Imphal.

This agreement followed correspondence with a member of an AC church in the United States who along with others has been financially supporting the school’s activities for some years, and a visit to the school by an YJM staff member.

The school has been in operation since 1990 and has approximately 450 students, in classes ranging from Lower Kindergarten to Standard 10, taught by 18 teachers. About half of the students’ homes are 60 to 80 kms from the school and they live in a hostel at the school, whilst the others travel daily to school.

The school is owned and run by a Christian lady, Thirumathi (Mrs) Roselle, assisted by her brother Oliver. Our staff member’s report described Roselle as follows…”She is a humble, humorous and God fearing lady .She is unselfish and owns nothing for herself. She lives for the children’s welfare and their benefit. She leads an exemplary life committed to God and serving the children.”

Our staff member’s report describes the school and its operation as follows….

“[The children] are all very humble, God fearing and disciplined. They begin the day with prayer, singing, praising the Lord and end the day with devotion and thanksgiving. Every day they fetch water from nearby places for washing purposes, besides this they have a well which is used only for cooking and bathing. They have a worship place which has metal sheet roofing and mud floor with no coverings on the sides. Children gather here every morning and evening to hear the Word of God and they sing praises to the Lord. They have electric power only on alternate days so they need to depend on emergency lamps which are available in the local market. All the class rooms are open on all the sides with metal sheet roofing and it begins to leak when it rains. The floors are mud floor and none of the classes have lights or proper furnitures or sanitary facilities. Teachers’ salaries were paid less, the lowest being 1,300 rupees the highest being 3,000 rupees which hardly meets the needs which is the reason teachers quit the school for finding better paid jobs. So whatever funds come teachers were given their salaries first and the remaining money spent for other purposes. The school has one old version computer which was donated to them long back. They need a new computer with updated version. The school has no camera and on special occasions has to rent one.
No transportation is available for buying vegetables, fuel, provisions, medical care, emergencies etc. The cost of fuel is very high compared to other places. At times of emergency like medical care it is impossible without vehicle. They have to come to Imphal. Sale of tobacco, liquor, cigarettes are prohibited. The whole community are Christians and they fear God.”

As a condition of their support agreement, Yesuway Jeevan Mission receives a quarterly report on the activities of all its ministry partners. Th. Roselle recently forwarded a report, which sets out details of their philosophies and program.

Parts of that report are as follows…

“ACTIVITIES OF THE STUDENTS OF

EMMANUEL’S SCHOOL AND CHILDREN HOME, CHANDEL, MANIPUR, INDIA

A mere academic pursuit /class-room teacher is not enough for the all-round development of the children-building self-confidence with experience in a sound body and mind is required to meet the challenges of their day to day/near/future practical life fittingly. Keeping in view of this, the school created a special schedule for various activities of the children:

INTERNAL ACTIVITIES

*CONDUCT OF DEVOTION/ASSEMBLY: – A brief period of 30 minutes is spared for the students to conduct a short Devotion/Assembly by themselves under the guidance of their teachers every morning before resumption of their class and assembled themselves after the class with a prayer they are dispersed for their respective homes.

*DIVISION OF STUDENTS: – Into 4 (four) Houses- RED, BLUE, GREEN AND YELLOW. These four houses are made to engage in stiff competitions against one another in any Extra-Curricular Activities for the House Championship annually.

*EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: – (A) IN-DOOR (B) OUT-DOOR.

Besides, the students organized themselves to conduct/present themselves various items – Folk-Dances, Drama, Singing, Comical acting’s and treating their teachers with an array of food prepared by themselves on a yearly day like ‘TEACHERS’ DAY’.

EXTERNAL ACTIVITIES

Students participation in March-Past on Republic Day and Independence Day for both boys and girls.

Besides, every Sunday, they attend local church for the worship service. And sometimes they go to surrounding churches and present songs and testimonies. Every first Sunday of the month we have fasting prayer, especially for the school, hostel and supporters.”

Will you please uphold Thirumathi Roselle and her team and the children who they teach and train and seek to point to the Lord Jesus Christ in prayer on a regular basis? If the Lord leads you to join us in assisting this school to continue its ministry and upgrade its facilities, we would be pleased to hear from you and to give you more details of specific needs.

In Thailand John and Maeo Middlewood and their ministries at Christian Mission Naratchakwai continue to touch the lives of literally hundreds of elementary, high school and university students.

Since the Gen.12:1 Team was there in December/January an extra dormitory room has been constructed and a total of 12 girls, ranging from 7th grade to 3rd year university students now live full time at the compound – in 3 rooms each with four girls. Six of the girls who are attending high schools are enrolled in English medium study programs and John coaches then in English for many hours a week and tutors them in their other school subjects. All of the girls assist John in the teaching of English to students at other schools, at all-day Saturday English Camps at elementary schools in the area around Naratchawkwai. John is also tutoring a group of 10 university students who are majoring in English and want to be English teachers for four hours per week and these students conduct an English Camp once a month at schools in the area. The camps will assist about 250 elementary and high school students each month and in doing so will enhance the chances of these young people obtaining better jobs when they enter the workforce later in their lives.

God has graciously answered our prayers for the young people who have been and are living with John and Maeo. John reports that in the past few weeks two further girls have committed their lives to Jesus Christ. He recently reported….

“The best news is for last; and many prayers have been answered. Last Sunday Ploy came to me and said that she has accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. When asked if she had talked to her parents, she said yes, so we went to see her mother. Her father was not home. Mother isn’t really happy – even though in the beginning he said it would be her daughter’s choice to make. She has, however, honored Ploy’s choice. She has, for the present, refused to let Ploy move back in permanently. She has allowed Ploy to come from school on Friday, stay at the mission on Friday and Saturday night and return home Sunday after church. We are praying that mother may change her mind after school gets started again. Please pray with us. That’s not all. On Monday, Bee came to me and told me that Lita had been talking to her and that Lita has accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. I talked to Lita Monday afternoon and she confirmed that she had accepted Christ. We are going to need some major praying for this young lady. As of right now, she has no citizenship. She has no birth certificate, so she isn’t Thai and she isn’t Lao. But before we can get Lita’s problems straightened out, we have to get her mother’s paperwork straightened out. Mother has no citizenship either. We do know she was born in Laos; we don’t know about Lita’s father, other than he is dead. I will be starting to research after Thai New Years – sometime between April 9 and 17. I may have some people that can help me – the question is whether they will want to or not – pray that they will want to even though there is nothing in it for them. If we can’t get things straightened out, Lita cannot legally continue school. As long as we are working on the paperwork, the local high school has indicated they will allow her to start school in grade 7, but in order for her to stay, she will have to get the correct paperwork.”

Please continue to pray for the now five girls who have accepted Christ as Saviour – Bee and Nun and Bpun and Ploy and Lita. The pressures on them from Buddhist family members and their peers and from their culture will be great. Pray that they may grow in grace and in the knowledge of their Saviour and that their faith may be strengthened. John advises that Bee and Nun, assisted by Bpun, Ploy and Lita (left to right at left) are “managing the complete children’s program {at Christian Mission Naratchakwai} and have been a great blessing to me, taking a huge load off my back and we all praise God for that.”

One of John’s desires over many years has been to develop a Thai Classical Band and during this summer’s school vacation, a group of 13 of his girls has spent three days a week learning to play classical instruments in a nearby town and after spending 100 hours in the program, to quote John, “…had their final concert and were a smashing success.”

Many thanks once again for your prayers and your partnership with us in Advent Christian ministries in south-east Asia. As the folk in India often say… ”By God’s grace and through your prayers” God is touching lives and bringing blessing.

Greetings to all our brothers and sisters in the Lord, who continue to support the work in the Philippines by prayer and in a financial manner. God is faithful all the time!

Once again as I write I do so from Banilad, Cebu City, Philippines. I have been in the Philippines, both in Cagayan De Oro and here in Cebu City.

It was a pleasure to meet with Pastor Roy Rocha and his eldest son, Jojo, at the airport in Manila, as I waited for my domestic flight to Cagayan de Oro very early the next morning. I have scheduled time with Roy again as I leave Manila on May 24th. Pastor Roy writes “Praise God! His love endures forever! We praise God for truly He is Jehovah Jireh. We were able to held DVBS because He answered our prayers for DVBS materials for free. It was a blessed DVBS program that we are now hosting tutorial class for another week. It is always a great joy seeing children enjoying their lessons, activities, and games.
We want to thank you all for your prayers!
Please continue helping us in praying for:

Ministry partners for our children ministry.

God’s wisdom as we are raying in opening a “Child Care” ministry. This ministry will be focusing on child’s academic and spiritual development.

For our ongoing tutorial that the teachers will be more passionate.

For our church rally “keep the flame burning” that every believer will minister.”

In Christ,
Roy

On arriving in CDO I was met by Mm Nely Gamayon, her husband Sir Nathan and Pastor Reniel Comajeg. It was great to see them again and also great that I did not have to get a taxi to the city to OBC. While in CDO I stayed with Pastor Reniel and Felany. Within an hour or so of arriving in CDO I attended the OBC Commissioning service for the up-coming interns and the Graduating students. There will be five interns for the coming first semester, three men and two women. In the afternoon the Graduation Ceremony took place. This broke from the usual pattern as the Kindergarten Graduation took place the previous day instead of being held in conjunction with the college ceremony.
Six young people, three men and three women had the degree of ABTh conferred upon them. It was a time of blessing to be able to be present for both the Commissioning and the Graduation and to spend time with those whom I had come to know and love while living here.
Prayer Items for OBC.

Pray for the continued outreach ministry over the Summer break that this would be maintained even though students are not there to assist.

Pray that the faculty and staff would be renewed in health and strength during the break.

Pray for interns going out on assignment at the beginning of June that they will be encouraged in this phase of their training.

Pray for the recent graduates as they seek to know God’s leading for the future.

On the Sunday morning I was in CDO I spoke once again at Macanhan where I have spoken each time I have returned to CDO. It was most encouraging to see the building was packed full with standing room only (and this was not because they had a guest speaker). The congregation has grown considerably over the last three years or so under the ministry of Pastor Benjie Ragas. Concerning the recent ministry Pastor Benjie writes “This is the last report during our children’s camp, since this is our first camp for the kids in our church we had only 10 participant and other are not because they are in their vacation. Here are some of our prayer requests; the upcoming youth camp this coming May 23-25 that every preparation will be ok by God’s intervention, secondly, we keep on praying that the renovation of the second floor will be started. We already have some materials for the renovation but we don’t have payment for the carpenter and labor. Please do pray for financial support”. From the face-book photos I received it is evident that the children had a great time together at camp. Pray that the seeds sown during the camp will mature into a fruitful harvest in the months to come. The camp which Pastor mentions in his prayer items is a denominational area youth camp being held about an hour out of the city.

Having spent a few days in CDO I came to Cebu and have, since arriving, stayed with another of my “Filipino sons”, Pastor Jonathan Navacilla. I am amazed at all this young man does. He virtually never stops. I came here with ideas of how I could help him but I soon came to realize that what we as westerners often think is best is not necessarily so and therefore it is wrong to try and impose our ideas on those of another culture.
While here I have helped Pastor Jonathan to paint his room and vestibule so that it is more welcoming for his new bride, Flor, when she comes to live here. I have also preached here in Banilad four times over three Sundays. I always count it a privilege to be able to share the word of God and am fortunate that nearly all of the congregation understand all that I say.
This congregation has grown tremendously since Pastor Jonathan came nearly four years ago from fifty people to about seventy to eighty each Sunday and once again there is standing room only until the children go out for their programmes. Not only am I greatly encouraged to see this growth but also to see that this congregation ministers to about two hundred non- church people per week through the various activities which are held. It is no wonder Pastor Jonathan appears to never rest. I thank God that some of the church members a beginning to take up the load and assist in leadership roles in these ministries. As well as the usual activities the church, in co-operation with OM (Operation Mobilization), ministered this last Saturday (May 5) to fifty medical, thirty dental and twenty optical patients. It was the church’s responsibility to organize and co-ordinate the patients. This mission was held in Umapad, the area in which the church has out-reach programmes for women (about 24), children (100+) and teens (25+). This is in addition to the Brother’s Keeper Basketball Fellowship (about 60 new comers) and the young ladies’ “Soul Seekers” bowling ministry (20+). These ministries require attendance at a Bible study if people wish to play.
Pastor Jonathan and his fiancée, Flor, will be married on May 17th in Iligan City. It will be a real joy for me to be there to witness the joining of these two young, dedicated servants of the Lord in marriage.
There is a problem concerning the church site. The lot which was purchased was untitled and the former owners have filed a case against all those in the area. This has been before the courts now for some years. If it goes ahead and is successful, hundreds will be made homeless and the church will have to relocate. In addition to this there are plans to widen the road which will mean the front of the church will have to be demolished, making it too small for the present congregation, and many homes and small businesses will be demolished or reduced in size also. As these are all untitled lots this will cause problems for resale or compensation.
Prayer Items for the Banilad congregation

Pray for Jonathan and Flor as they celebrate their marriage on May 17th at 3.00pm (7.00pm NZ time). Pray that they would be even more effective servants of Christ as a couple, than they have as individuals).

Pray for the continued effective ministry at Umapad. Pray that at least another leader for the teens would be found very soon and that a more suitable place to meet would become available.

Pray for the work amongst the men’s Basketball league and the young ladies’ bowling group, that those who are being ministered to will come to know the Lord.

Pray that the difficulties over the land may be solved according to God’s will.

During the semester break Pastor Reniel Comajeg was able to complete a block course in Hebrew at CGST, here in Cebu. This is credited to his MDiv course. It is pleasing to report that for his final exam he passed with 100% and for the whole course his grade average was 1.0 (for those of us lay people this means that he averaged over 95% for the course – assignments, tests and exams). Congratulations Pastor, and praise the Lord. Pastor Reniel hopes to be able to continue another subject by correspondence in the new semester. This will also be towards his MDiv degree, but as of this time he has to await word from CGST. Please pray that he may be able to do this.

Once again, thank you for your continued support for those who labour so faithfully here in the Philippines for the Lord. May our God bless and keep you all in His love and service.

Yours in Christ’s Name

Grant Aldridge

They spent about 12 or 14 days during the month of April – from 8 am to 4:30 pm in a small town called Renu Nakhon, located about 40 miles from the Christian Mission. We left here at 7 am, dropped them off for the day and picked them up again at 4:30 pm to get home about 5:30 pm for dinner at 6. Then from 6-9 pm they had English classes, practiced music etc. The days they didn’t have band practice, they had English classes and homework. Praise God it is all over now and school starts on May 14. We will be getting back to a more organized schedule, God willing. Enjoy the pictures. The concert at the end was great. Please pray that they will continue practice here at the mission. God Bless, John and Maeo{Hover over the images to read the captions}

Greetings from the Christian Mission again. It is about 8:30 Sunday morning, and I will get a little bit done before church starts at 9 am.

Where to begin is the question. Sunday, April 22 was a day of miracles and history making events for the Christian Mission. For the first time in our history every believer who was in attendance testified to the glory and power of Christ and told of an event during the past week where God had blessed them. Second, 5 of our girls who are not believers testified to the power of God and something that he had done in their lives during the past week. More people testified at one time than have ever testified before. This followed the week prior when we had the lowest attendance we have had in several years. God is working miracles daily here.

Please pray for Nun. She was one of our first leaders. The end of February she left to go take care of a sick aunt in another province. At that time she said she would be gone for 2 weeks or so. We have not heard from her since that time. Attempts to contact her by Maeo, myself or Bee have been unsuccessful. She has not contacted her grandmother or anyone else that we know of. School registration is the first of May and if she does not return before then she will not be able to get into school. {Note: John tell me that Nun has since made contact ~ed}

On the brighter side, God has blessed us beyond belief in raising Bee as the leader in our youth program. You have already heard about the seminar in March that Bee, Bpun and other teens in our group attended; you have already heard about the success of our own VBS and God’s blessing of it, you have already heard of the VBS at Kuseman that God blessed mightily. And it appears it is only the start.

Currently Bee has a team of three other new believers. First is Bpun, grade 10. Left us at grade 7 and returned last year; Ploy a recent believer. Lived here for two years, went home and decided she wanted to come back. During the process this summer break she accepted Christ; Lita, grade 7, arrived about 6 months ago when her house burned down. She moved in for a month and has never left. She has no citizenship, so we are praying for that right now. She has accepted Christ and is working with Bee and the others. They are managing the complete children’s program and have been a great blessing to me, taking a huge load off my back and we all praise God for that.

During the month of April 13 of our girls participated in a camp for Thai Classical Musical Instruments and April had their final concert and were a smashing success. Since so much of what goes on in Thailand is compulsory, especially in the schools, people are having a very hard time understanding why our girls volunteer to do so much. But we know, don’t we? The girls spent about 100 hours in this program this summer break and in addition another 100 plus hours in a variety of English things. Praise God for his blessings.

School starts about May 14-16, so we are busy getting ready for that. We have 2 English Camps before school starts and our girls will have another 20 hours or so of English so we are praying all goes well there too.

The rainy season is started and we have been warned that it is going to be very severe this year. We have already seen evidence of it in a couple of monsoon storms with very strong winds.

It is now May 9, so it is time for me to get this in the mail and try to get another newsletter out today to bring things up to date. Lots of activities and not enough time. Pictures of the Thai band in the next newsletter. God bless, John and Maeo and the rest of us.
She is a graduating senior from her high school in Nong Khon Kaen. She has been accepted at Payao Seminary in Northern Thailand. She is asking for prayer for assistance in tuition – approximately $700.00 US for the school year. This includes room and board but does not include school materials and personal expenses. These costs would be about $65.00 US per month. Her family does not have the funds to support her; in fact, as I understand it, her mother would rather she go to work. Her father and mother are both farmers. She has one younger brother in school. Dtaa and Bee have been working together in their respective youth programs, combining activities a couple of times. Bee and Dtaa have attended a seminar in Bangkok and one in Khon Kaen concerning youth ministries. They have worked together with other youth leaders, conducting VBS camps. Please pray for God’s blessing that our prayers will be answered for this girl. Thank you and may God Bless, John

Now he is getting better because the prayer God is doing wonders in his life in last month. Two weeks he was not able to lead the church on Sundays but last {week} 30-4-12 God helped him to conduct the service. Continually pray for him for as he is taking medicine. Let mighty God Jesus may heal Him completely. The cost of medication for six month is in Indian Rupees 18,000 thousand.”

(Please thank the LORD for His answers to our prayers, in that Pastor Gabriel has recovered quickly from the fever he had. The treatment for TB from which Pastor Gabriel also suffers is a course of drugs for 6 months. 18,000 rupees is about US$360/NZ$425 and is a huge amount for Gabriel and his family to find. If you would like to help please contact ACGC or ACMissioNZ. Ernie Schache)
