SSE Asia Update February 18th

Dear friends, supporters and prayer partners,

Although the New Year is well under way already, I pray that the year will be a blessed one for you and your families and your church families, and that you will know the Lord’s leading and blessing as you serve Him. Thank you once again for your faithful prayers and for your financial support and for the encouragement these give me and those with whom I work in “my” countries in Asia.

I want to use this first update for the year to give you just a few examples of how your support has been and is a real blessing to those nationals who are serving the Lord in Advent Christian ministries in India, Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia and to assure you that I believe that much of what is happening is happening not only because the leaders and workers are doing tremendously good and faithful ministry, but because the Lord is answering your and their prayer for those ministries. In some cases what I tell you will be history, but some of the matters will be matters that are very much of the present and are ongoing – like the new outreach that one of our leaders in Myanmar is beginning this very month. Are you looking for some paid OE and the opportunity to serve the Lord in Missions at the same time?

What about Thailand?

As I have often mentioned in my newsletters, John Middlewood, who with his wife Maeo ministers in the northeast of Thailand at the AC “Christian Mission Naratchakwai”, is heavily involved with teaching English in many elementary and secondary schools in the area around the city of Nakhon Phanom (NKP). His efforts to help raise the standard of English in the schools of the area have brought him into a close relationship with Education Department officials and principals and teachers of the province, and he is highly respected by those in educational circles.

John has recently sent the following advertisement seeking teachers.

Special Request for Prayer – 29 November 2010

Dear friends and prayer partners,

In my Update dated 19 November, I asked you to pray for a young lady named Amporn, who is one of the high school girls who are part of John and Maeo Middlewood’s team for teaching English at Naratchakwai, Nakhon Phanom, Thailand.

Amporn (pictured at right) committed her life to Jesus Christ earlier this year and expressed the wish to be baptised at a time when several other girls were to be baptised. Her parents and her mother particularly, would not give permission for her to be baptised as she (mother) claimed that she had already dedicated Amporn to the “spirits” when she was young. Amporn is one of the eight girls who are living at John and Maeo’s home and are being sponsored to attend an English Medium Programme at the local high school, and her commitment to the Lord and to His service have been very obvious in her life and in her involvement in the activities at the Christian Mission Naratchakwai and in particular in the English Teaching Teams which the Mission sends out to teach English in schools in the surrounding district.

With John Middlewood’s permission I set out below copies of emails I have received from him over the last week or so, which explain the situation which he is presently facing in regard to Amporn. [Read more...]

SSE Asia Update November 19th

Dear friends and prayer partners,

As I type this newsletter I have been back in New Zealand a little over a week after travelling to Thailand (two days travel each way including a mind – and other parts of the body – numbing 12 hour bus trip each way between Bangkok and Nakhon Phanom in the north east of the country) for a very encouraging and enlightening meeting with John and Maeo Middlewood, the four pastor leaders of the Advent Christian Conference of Myanmar (Burma) and ACGC Executive Director Rev Ron Thomas and Director of World Outreach Rev Tim Fox.

It’s rice harvest time in Thailand – in the north anyway – and as we travelled in the bus we passed through miles and miles of rice fields, often on both sides of the highway for as far as we could see in any direction – probably hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of acres of rice in various stages of ripeness. That reminded me of course that Scripture tells us, as Jesus told His disciples…. “I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” (John 4:35 NIV)

SSE Asia Update September 24th

Greetings to you once again and thank you for your faithful prayers for those who serve the Lord under the Advent Christian banner in India, Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar. We continue to hear of pressures and problems and difficult situations, but we also get reports of God’s power working in the lives of those who hear the message of God’s love and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Your partnership in prayer and financial support plays a significant part in those eternal results.

Without doubt the greatest need for prayer continues to be centred on the situation in India. Immanuel, FBHC President Prabu Manuel and Treasurer Regi Christopher continue to be under tremendous pressure from the group of rebel pastors who are continuing to say and do things and instigate activities which are unbelievable for those who profess to be ministers of the Gospel.

Dear prayer partners and friends,

As I write these words I am concerned for our brothers and sisters in MYANMAR. It seems that those who are under pressure seem to be the ones who have more pressures and problems heaped upon them! Not only do our workers and their believers (and other Christians) in Myanmar have to deal with the pressures of a heartless governing regime which seeks to stop them sharing the Gospel with their fellow Burmese and which seems to care little for their basic human rights or the needs of the people, but they are now suffering the effects of a very hot summer and a very serious lack of clean water. Most of us take very much for granted the fact that we can turn on a tap at any time and be assured of a supply of safe, clean water.

Dear prayer partners and friends,

God is continuing to bring blessing to the Advent Christian workers in the countries in Asia for which I have some responsibility. This is because of the dedicated ministries of the national workers – it is a real privilege to be involved and work with them as they serve the Lord with such commitment and dedication in what in almost all cases are difficult conditions and circumstances of one kind or another – and because the Lord is hearing and answering your and our prayers.

Malaysia

I said in my last letter that I would give you more details of the AC ministries in Malaysia.

SSE Asia Update – Dec 2009

(South-South-East Asia Region) by Ernie Schache

Christmas Greetings

Dear supporters, prayer partners, family and friends,

I have again been listening in recent days to the wonderful sounds of Handel’s “Messiah”. I have two versions – the original, performed much as Handel wrote it, and the more “modern” version “Handel’s Young Messiah” which bounces along in more modern tempos. Whichever version I listen to, I am blessed by hearing the words of Scripture and I often find myself mentally or actually “singing” (as best I can with my very limited ability in this area) the wonderfully beautiful and encouraging words long after the music has stopped!
